Here are instructions on how they can format their LaCie drive on a Mac. If your customers want to connect their LaCie drive to multiple devices (such as a Mac, Windows computer, iPad Pro and Android smartphone), they should format their drive to ExFAT, as it’s compatible with most operating systems. iOS 13 and iPadOS support the following formats: ExFAT, FAT32, HFS+ and APFS. Mobile devices won’t be able to recognize every hard drive format. The LaCie Rugged SSD draws power through a USB port. Luckily, some of our devices (like the LaCie d2 Professional) have multiple ports. Lastly, connecting a LaCie drive to their phone or tablet through a Thunderbolt port is not possible. Some of the newer Android devices can power connected drives, but it is dependent upon the type of USB port. iOS devices with a Lightning port and older Android mobile devices may not have enough juice to power the same drives since they are USB 2.0. The iPad Pro, for example, should provide enough power to connect to several LaCie hard drives, since it has a USB 3.1 (gen 2) port. It depends on the protocol and type of the USB port of the mobile device. If their hard drive draws power through a USB port (like the LaCie Rugged SSD), then it gets a little tricky. If their hard drive has an external adapter (like the LaCie d2 Professional), they should be able to connect it to their mobile devices, as long as they have a fitting USB-C cable.

Some draw their power through an external adapter, others through a USB port. PowerĪll hard drives require a power supply. There are a few factors your customers have to keep in mind.
